Don’t want to live in the dark? Here are a few trusted tips on how to save on your daunting house bills.

1.
Run your washing machine and dishwasher overnight
It is cheaper to run your washing machines and dishwasher between the hours of 1am and 9am. You can set a timer on your dishwasher (if you own one) to run during this time period, meaning you don’t have to wake up at God knows what hour in the morning to set it off.
2.
Fire
If you are lucky enough to own a fireplace, instead of using the heating, wrap up in blankets, grab a hot drink and chill in front of the warm glow. With this in mind, make sure to top up on the essentials whenever and wherever you can. It’s the worst when you get home from a long day at work and want to put your feet up to realise you have no wood…
3.
Air Fryer
It’s a must have! This machine means that you don’t have to use your oven to cook, which uses a lot of electricity. Instead, invest in an air fryer, plug it into your wall and voila! Your use of the oven will become minute.
4.
Turn your TV off
When you’re not watching it, turn the TV OFF! Snap out of the mindset to have the TV running in the background to avoid silence. Honestly, if you’re without kids, DO NOT take the silence for granted. Pick up a book, relax with your feet up in front of the hot fire (😉) and relax. Besides, limiting your screen time during the day has many benefits, including reducing banging headaches.
5.
Turn off lights during the day
During the day, there’s this huge light source called THE SUN! WOAH! I mean, we’re in the UK so the sight of this thing called the sun is rare, but it still lights the planet through those annoying clouds.
6.
Try to limit long showers
If you’re like me, this is going to be hard. But try to limit long showers as the longer you’re in there, the more hot water and electricity you will be using (obviously) so try to make them quick and sweet. You’ll get more done during the day anyway if you don’t spend most of it in the shower, trust me!
7.
Try limit hot foods
Understanding that we’re heading into colder days, but try to limit hot meals, even if it’s just not having a hot meal for lunch. The more you need to use electricity to heat foods, the more it’s going to cost in the overall bills.
These are just a few ideas to help keep those bills down. Following even a few off the list can make a huge difference to your overall living costs, even if you are afraid of the dark and can’t stand dark corners thanks to watching too many horror films.
